Neville slams ’embarrassing’ Man Utd as ‘selfish’ Pogba misses penalty after pulling prank on Rashfo

GARY NEVILLE slated “embarrassing” Manchester United after Paul Pogba took the penalty against Wolves instead of Marcus Rashford – and missed  Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had the perfect opportunity to regain the lead after Pogba was fouled by Conor Coady inside the box  Supporters expected Rashford to step up to the spot after he scored a penalty against Chelsea last weekend  But after he had climbed back to his feet, Pogba decided to take the responsibility upon himself  He has missed four penalties in the Premier League since the start of last season – which is the most out of any player in the competition in that time  The French World Cup winner struck the ball well, but Rui Patricio made a good save, parrying it away to keep the score locked at 1-1 ‘TYPICAL POGBA, SELFISH’  After the match, Neville raged: “Before he took the pen I was fuming I was thinking it’s typical Pogba, selfish.  “Why are you even thinking of taking a penalty off of a player?  “The only reason I’m holding back from calling it treacherous is that before before the one against Chelsea, Pogba and Rashford had a long chat and maybe it was Rashford who took it off Pogba against Chelsea  “Despite that, I don’t like it. Why is there a debate about who should take a penalty? There should never be one  “Pogba has taken and missed penalties so you think he has had his chance. Rashford scored last week so let him take the pen  “There wasn’t a leader on the pitch. They couldn’t make a decision. Something wasn’t right  “This is a Manchester United penalty. This is not a tombola or Under-5s on the playground It wasn’t decisive.  “It was like ‘go on mate you have it’. They should be deciding this in the dressing room ” This takes it too VAR By Graeme Bryce  WOLVES have invested millions in state-of-the-art lighting at Molineux  Yet it could not prevent 31,314 fans being left in the dark at the most critical moment last night  TV viewers watched another VAR drama unfold, while those at the match were sadly treated like second-class citizens  The drama centred around Ruben Neves’ sensational leveller for Wolves after 55 minutes  Joao Moutinho worked a smart short corner one-two with Diogo Jota before pinging the ball to the edge of the box for Neves  The Portuguese midfielder took a touch, then steered a brilliant effort which beat David De Gea and crashed in off the bar  But in the bedlam that followed, Wolves fans’ celebrations were cut short as ref Jon Moss consulted with dreaded VAR…  TV viewers were shown a series of grids and lines proving Moutinho was just onside when passed to  Meanwhile, both sets of fans in the stadium stared at a screen which said, “VAR checking,” and a ref with a finger poked in his ear!  We entered the 21st century with VAR — but   supporters at games sadly remain in the dark ages ‘IT’S UP TO THEM’  Solskjaer said after the game: “The two of them are the designated penalty shooters It’s up to them there and then to decide that ‘this is mine’.  “Sometimes players feel they are confident enough – Paul has scored so many penalties for us, today Patricio made a good save ”  Fans went wild on social media after Pogba decided to step up to the spot.  Gary Lineker even tweeted: “Inexplicable that Pogba should take the penalty after Rashford took one and scored last week As a striker that would absolutely do my head in.” Wolves v Man Utd – How it happened  One fan added: “How on earth is Pogba allowed to take that penalty This is absolute nonsense.”  While one claimed: “He is an absolute waste of time Please get rid of Pogba.”  The game at the Molineux Stadium ended as a 1-1 draw after Ruben Neves’ screamer cancelled out Anthony Martial’s opener
