Martial Arts Kicks : How to Do a Front Thrust Kick on Kick Shield

Hi everybody I’m John Graden from the martial
arts teacher’s association, johngraden.com. When you learn a technique you want to learn
it first in the mirror and work on good form and execution, then you want to use it on
the target and we’re going to do our front thrust kick on the shield. Remember for front
thrust kick we bring the knee up high and stomp the heel out to the opponent. Imagine
if there is a can on the ground and I’m stomping on the can except that stomping action is
going straight out. Let’s take a look at it. Joining me from Pro Star Mixed Martial Arts
is my good friend, Joe Brignoli. Here we go. When you are holding the target or your partner
is they’re in a fighting stance, they’re solid, the target is next to their body, no gaps
and he exhales every time that I hit it. When you hold the target for a hard kicker it is
good to do that so you learn about impact, that’s why I call it impact training. Here
we go. I am going to do the front thrust kick, take a minor step back please. I’m going to
try and get this knee up high. I’m going to stomp right into this logo. So pull up, boom,
drive straight in, boom. You have to take the time to get the knee up. A lot of times
people will rush it and it will get there too soon. Take that beat and get that knee
up high, boom, and drive straight through. Finally I do not want to kick with just the
weight of my leg, I want my hips to really thrust hard for power so I get as much of
my body weight in the technique as possible, boom. Another common error, watch my head,
students will as they rise the knee raise their body up and that throws you way off
balance. Stay nice and low and just let the knee come up. That’s the front thrust kick.
I’m John Graden.
